REMSEN, Iowa -- Francis N. Muller, 77, of Tempe, Ariz., formerly of Remsen, died Wednesday, March 30, 2005, at Banner Desert Hospital in Mesa, Ariz.

Services were held April 4 at Church of the Resurrection in Tempe. Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Remsen, with the Rev. Timothy Johnson officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, with military rites conducted by the American Legion Post 220 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3328. Visitation will be 9:30 a.m. until service time Saturday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Fisch Funeral Home in Remsen.

Francis was born Sept. 27, 1927, in Marcus, Iowa, the son of James P. and Agnes (Kass) Muller. He was raised in Remsen and received his education at St. Mary's Catholic School, graduating in 1945. He entered the U.S. Army on Dec. 4, 1945, and served in the Pacific Theater during World War II. He was discharged Jan. 21, 1947. He then returned to Remsen to work in the construction business with his father.

On June 7, 1950, he married Mary Lou Shea and they made their home on a farm near Remsen, where they raised their children. In the early 1970s, they started Muller's Inc., a furniture, gift and interior decorating business, in Remsen. In 1984, they moved to Tempe and enjoyed retirement and frequent returns to Remsen for many years.

He was a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3328 and the Lions Club, all in Remsen.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Lou of Tempe; three sons and their wives, John and Jane of Paullina, Iowa, Dr. James and Linda of Manhattan, Kan., and Dr. Philip and Valentina of Sioux City; three daughters, Barbara and her husband, William Champion of Salt Lake City, Utah, Ann Muller of San Antonio, Texas, and Joan and her husband, Dan Carlson of San Anselmo, Calif.; 14 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a sister and her husband, Yvonne and Ivan Theisen of Marcus, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and an infant son, William Paul.

Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Jason, Jared and Theron Muller, David Torrez and Nicholas and Bayard Carlson.
