Maxine E. Toliver, 91, of Kingsley, and formerly of Rapid City, S.D., died Tuesday, April 8, 2008, at Sunrise Manor Nursing Home in Sioux City.

Maxine Elizabeth Toliver was born March 7, 1917, in Bertrand, Neb., the daughter of Carl and Virgil (Richardson) Dyer. She was raised and attended school in Belmont, Neb. On Sept. 8, 1934, Maxine and Howard Toliver were united in marriage at Scottsbluff, Neb. The couple made their home in Crawford, Neb., until moving to Rapid City, S.D., in 1954. Howard died in January 1993.

Maxine remained in Rapid City until moving to Kingsley in 1999. She briefly lived with her son Bob until moving to Sunrise Manor in Sioux City.

Maxine enjoyed flower gardening and yard work. She was an excellent seamstress and sewed many things for her grandchildren.

She will be lovingly remembered by her son and daughter--in-law Bobbie and Barbara Toliver of Kingsley; her daughter and son-in-law LaVonna and John Starks of Midland, Texas; six grandchildren, Doug Toliver, Scott Toliver, Greg Toliver, Cheryl Ransom, Debra Leigh and Tamie Christiansen; 15 great-grandchildren; 14 great-great grandchildren; two sisters Evelyn Toliver of Crawford, Neb., and Arvella Marshall and her husband Chester of Buffalo, Wyo.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Howard; and a brother-in-law Merle Toliver.

A memorial service will take place at 7 p.m. Friday, April 11 at the Johnson -- Earnest Funeral Home of Kingsley. The Rev. Duane Miesner will officiate. Burial will take place at a later date at the Mountain View Cemetery near Rapid City, S.D. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home with the family present from 6-8 p.m.
