Clarence "Bud" Kasner, 87, of Kingsley, died Wednesday, July 11, 2007m at the Happy Siesta Care Center in Remsen.

Clarence Delmar Kasner was born June 21, 1920, in Kingsley, the son of Julius and Myrtle (Thompson) Kasner. He was raised near Kingsley and attended country school. He entered the United States Army in 1941. He performed his basic training at Camp Walters, Texas. He was then stationed in the Aleutian Islands. Bud earned his honorable discharge in December 1944. He returned to Kingsley and married Viola "Vi" Baune on Sept. 17, 1946, in Remsen. The couple farmed near Kingsley for several years. They moved to Kingsley in 1976 but did not retire from farming until 1984.

Bud joined St. Michael's Catholic Church in 1996. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus; KCAC, and Nash Post #140 of the American Legion. He has also been a member of the Beef and Pork Producers as well as the Iowa Corngrowers Association.

He enjoyed golfing, fishing, playing cards, gardening, but he especially enjoyed his great-grandchildren.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Vi of Kingsley; a son Jerry Kasner of Le Mars; a daughter Jean Pedersen and her husband Jerry of Moville; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; sisters Shyrl Albert of Williamsville, N.Y., Jan (Ron) Walker of Ankeny, and Pat (Duane) Junck of Kingsley; sisters-in-law Flo Kasner of Seattle, Wash., Ginger (Kasner) Van Gundy of Elephant Butte, N.M.; brothers-in-law Earl Loutsch of Remsen and Joe (Joyce) Baune of Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif.

He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant sister Joyce; an infant brother Milton; sisters Stella Loutsch and Lola Knosp; brothers Gilbert "Tuffy", Donald and Roger Kasner.

Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Kingsley. Burial will follow at the parish cemetery with military honors provided by Nash Post #140 of the American Legion in Kingsley. Visitation will begin at 3 p.m. Friday at the Rohde - Earnest Funeral Home in Kingsley. The family will be present from 3 to 5 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m. and a 3rd Degree Knights of Columbus Rosary to follow. There will also be one hour of visitation at the church prior to Mass.
