Ronald H. Wells, 71, of Des Moines, died Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2007, at Beaverdale Estates.
Ron was born Jan. 25, 1936, in Le Mars, the son of Harold and Bernadette (Kappas) Wells. He graduated from Gehlen High School were he was an outstanding athlete in football and track. He attended Creighton University in Omaha, Neb. He proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps. Ron worked for Gunnite Company in Des Moines, and for Chrysler in Belvidere, Ill.
He was a devoted member of Basilica of St. John and he assisted in taking communion to the sick and the elderly. He also volunteered at the Catholic worker house.
Ron was a very compassionate and caring person. He helped many people throughout his life.
He is survived by three sisters, Suzanne Stocker ( Don), Madonna Searing ( Bob), and Rita Tadlock (Dan); nephew, Eric (Charla) Tadlock; nieces, Angela (David) Kennis, Ann (Ernest) Vatch, and Tiffany Searing; great-nephew, Shawn Tadlock; great-nieces, Kelsie and Shelby Tadlock.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Fred Wells; and two nephews.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 1:30 p.m. today (Monday) at Basilica of St. John, 1915 University Ave. Des Moines. Visitation was held from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Caldwell Raddatz Funeral Home & Crematory in Urbandale. Burial will be at 12 noon Tuesday, Aug. 14, at Calvary Cemetery in Le Mars.
