Robert D. "Bob" Lanning, 74, of Akron, died Saturday, Aug. 4, 2007, at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City after a lengthy illness.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church in Akron. Pastor Damon Green will officiate. Burial will follow in the Riverside Cemetery in Akron. Visitations will be after 3 p.m. Tuesday with the family present after 6 p.m., and a prayer service at 7 p.m., all at Carlsen Funeral Home -- Schroeder Chapel in Akron.

Robert D. “Bob” Lanning, 74, of Akron, Iowa, passed away Saturday, August 4, 2007 at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City after a lengthy illness

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 8, 2007 at First Baptist Church in Akron. Pastor Damon Green will officiate. Burial will follow in the Riverside Cemetery in Akron. Visitations will be after 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 7, 2007, with the family present after 6:00 p.m., and a Prayer service at 7:00 p.m., all at Carlsen Funeral Home – Schroeder Chapel in Akron.

Donald Robert Lanning was born July 22, 1933 in Elk Point, South Dakota, the son of John and Clara (Warren) Lanning. He was baptized and came to know Jesus at the Church of Christ in Akron. He attended school in Elk Point. He lived in Elk Point until 1961, when he moved to Akron. He was united in marriage to Lucille Carlson on November 17, 1961 at the Church of Christ in Akron. He worked for Prince Manufacturing in Sioux City. Later he worked for C.M.I. Load King in Elk Point, South Dakota as a truck drive and welder. He was a dedicated employee, working for the company over 33 years. He retired in 1995. He and Lucille made their home in Akron and lived at the same location on Sargent Street their entire married life.

He was a longtime member of Akron Church of Christ and are now members of the First Baptist Church in Akron. He enjoyed being outdoors. He loved to go fishing and hunting, snowmobiling, and motorcycling. He and Lucille enjoyed traveling. Bob also enjoyed cooking and grilling and enjoyed having coffee at Casey’s. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Survivors include his wife Lucille of over 45 years of Akron; his two daughters: Ronda Blank of South Sioux City, NE, and Kim Kneifl and her husband Bob of Ponca, NE; his sister: Patsy A. Dimmick and her husband Dellis of rural Elk Point, SD; his two brothers: Ronald J. Lanning and his wife Nancy of Elk Point, SD, and John W. Lanning and his wife Judy of Akron, IA; his 6 grandchildren: Josh Lanning of South Sioux City, NE, Stormie Blank of South Sioux City, NE, Lacey Crandall and her husband Reed of South Sioux City, NE, Jessica Kastning and her husband Jim of Ponca, NE, Alicia Kneifl of Sioux Falls, SD, and Amanda Kneifl of Ponca, NE; 9 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother: Donald G. Lanning; paternal grandparents: George and Sufreny Lanning; maternal grandparents: Jonas and Mathilda Warren; several uncles; an aunt; a nephew; and 2 cousins.
