Alvin A. Searls, 86, of Akron, Iowa, died Sunday, Aug. 5, 2007, at Hillcrest Health Care in Hawarden.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Immanuel Lutheran Church, E.L.C.A. in Akron. The Rev. Dawn Quame will officiate. Burial will follow in the Riverside Cemetery in Akron. Visitation will be after 4: p.m. Tuesday, with the family present after 5 p.m., and a prayer service at 6 p.m., all at the church. The Carlsen Funeral Home -- Schroeder Chapel in Akron is in charge of arrangements.

Alvin A. Searls, 86, of Akron, Iowa, passed away Sunday, August 5, 2007 at Hillcrest Health Care in Hawarden, Iowa.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 8, 2007 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, E.L.C.A. in Akron. Reverend Dawn Quame will officiate. Burial will follow in the Riverside Cemetery in Akron. Visitations will be after 4:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 7, 2007, with the family present after 5:00 p.m., and a Prayer service at 6:00 p.m., all at the church. The Carlsen Funeral Home – Schroeder Chapel in Akron is in charge of arrangements.
Alvin Arnold Searls was born January 20, 1921 in Akron, Iowa, the son of Howard and Kristine “Mamme” (Christenson) Searls. He was baptized into the Christian faith. He attended Searls country school northeast of Akron. Following his schooling he helped his father on the family farm. Later, he moved to Sioux City, where he worked as a groundskeeper for the Sioux City Country Club for several years. Shortly after, he went to work for American Popcorn Company. After several years of dedicated service, he retired in June of 1985. In 1996, he moved to Hinton, Iowa, where he lived with his sister, Carolyn. In 1998, he moved to Akron, and lived in the Ridgewood Apartments. In September of 2001, he became a resident of Hillcrest Health Care in Hawarden.
He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Akron. He enjoyed fishing at Silver Lake and hunting. He also enjoyed woodworking. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Survivors include his 3 brothers: Walt Searls and his wife Peggy of Akron, Dan Searls of Akron, and William Searls of Sioux City; 2 sisters: Dorothy Siebsen and her husband Robert of Minneapolis, MN, and Lois Willer of Akron; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 brothers: Lloyd Searls and Irwin Searls; 2 sisters: Anita Young and Carolyn Wenzel; a sister-in-law: Virginia Searls; and a brother-in-law: Harry Willer.
