Jerry C. Treinen, 76, of Remsen, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, died at his home surrounded by his family on Friday, Aug. 3, 2007, after a lengthy battle with cancer.

Jerry C. Trenine was born Feb. 16, 1931, at Le Mars, the son of Charles and Anna (Kemp) Treinen. He was raised in the Alton-Remsen area and graduated from St. Mary's Academy in Alton in 1949. He then moved to Portland, Ore., for a short time to live with his sister, Ruth, then returned to Iowa to farm with his father.
In 1951, Jerry married Janet Schnepf. Later they moved their family to Orange County, Calif., where he worked for John Mansfield Company. After two years they came back to Remsen where he farmed. To his first marriage, six children were born.

In December 1964, Jerry married Gloria Peterson. They were married for 43 years, and to that union, two children were born.

Church was a very important part of Jerry's life. He attended St. Catherine's Catholic Church in Oyens, where he sang in the choir for more than 50 years. He was active in many organizations, including the Catholic Rural Life Committee, Catholic Order of Foresters of Remsen, National Farmers Organization, Democratic National Party, Sportsmans Club of Remsen and Eagles of Le Mars.

Jerry loved spending time around the kitchen table with his family and attending his grandchildren's activities. He enjoyed pinochle, hunting, fishing, Seagram sours, and the company of his German shepherd, Queenie. He could often be found having coffee with friends and neighbors.

He was a kind and generous man who never met anyone who didn't become a friend. Jerry was much loved and will be greatly missed.
