Margaret A. Flaherty, 91, of Le Mars, died Monday, Nov. 5, 2007, at Plymouth Manor Care Center in Le Mars.

Margaret A. Flaherty was born Aug. 18, 1916, in Le Mars, the oldest child of Thomas William and Cora (Sullivan) Flaherty. She was baptized and confirmed at St. James Catholic Church in Le Mars. Margaret attended Dalton Independent School in West Le Mars. She resided with her parents until moving to Plymouth Manor Care Center in Le Mars on April 7, 1975.

Margaret was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Le Mars. She was a cheerful person and always had a smile to greet everyone. She especially enjoyed visits from her family and friends. She also had a special knack for remembering numbers and dates and often assisted her family with recalling special occasions.

She will be lovingly remembered by her brothers Robert Flaherty of Peoria, Ill., and Leo R. Flaherty and his wife Helen of Le Mars; seven nieces and nephews: Barbara Mechtenberg and her husband Glen of Yankton, S.D., Michael Flaherty and his wife Frances of Missoula, Mont., James Flaherty and his wife Mary of Le Mars, Jean Marie Binder and her husband Mike of Yankton, S.D., Thomas William Flaherty III and his wife Marybeth of Houston, Texas, Patrick Flaherty of Houston, Texas, Erin Fenton and her husband Joseph of Houston, Texas; 19 great-nieces and nephews; two great-great nieces and nephews; her family at Plymouth Manor and many local friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother Thomas William Flaherty Jr.; and a nephew, Kevin L. Flaherty.

Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Le Mars. The Rev. Kevin Richter will officiate. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. Friday at the Mauer - Johnson Funeral Home of Le Mars. A rosary service will be held at 4 p.m. with a Scriptural prayer service at 6:30 p.m. There will also be one hour of visitation at the church prior to Mass.
