A Le Mars man died from injuries sustained from a traffic accident Saturday afternoon, said the Le Mars Police Department.
According to police reports, a westbound semi tractor/trailer driven by Kevin Heissel, 43, Le Mars, was stopped for a red light at the intersection of Plymouth Street East and Central Avenue at approximately 2:30 p.m.

While the traffic was stopped, Edward Kern Jones, 58, Le Mars, was attempting to exit the alley on the northside of Plymouth Street East and began to cross the street by crawling under the empty grain trailer of the semi tractor/trailer.

The traffic light turned green for east/west traffic, the police department said, when Jones was caught underneath the trailer and consequently ran over by the tires of the trailer.

Jones was transported to Floyd Valley Hospital by Le Mars Ambulance. He was later pronounced dead at Sioux City's Mercy Medical Center.

The semi tractor/trailer, owned by Le Mars' Dirksen Trucking, Inc., reportedly did not sustain any damages.
