Geraldine "Jeri" Weidenfeller, 80, a longtime resident of Le Mars passed away due to complications from influenza on Thursday March 6, 2008, at Happy Siesta Health Care Center in Remsen.
The former Geraldine Fries was born March 7, 1927, on a farm near Emmetsburg, the daughter of Ross and Mary (Kerleski) Fries. She grew up in the Cylinder and Emmetsburg area and graduated from Emmetsburg High School. Geraldine Fries married Oscar R. "Brick" Weidenfeller on Sept. 15, 1952, at Elk Point, S.D. Following their marriage the couple lived at Le Mars. She was employed for many years as a nurse's aide at Plymouth Manor Care Center in Le Mars. Jeri was a wonderful wife, mother and caregiver. Her husband Brick died on Aug. 20, 1980.
She was a member of St. James Catholic Church and the Altar Society. She enjoyed crocheting, quilting, embroidery and gardening with both vegetables and flowers.
Survivors include her five children: Lynn Jones and her husband Mark of Brunsville, Diane Brewer of Le Mars, Chris Weidenfeller and his wife Donna of Paton, Susan Sitzmann and Gina Cronin and her husband Chris, all of rural Le Mars; eight grandchildren: Jennifer Brewer of Sioux City, Amanda Brewer of Denison, Lindsy Weidenfeller and Caleb Weidenfeller, both of Paton, and Adam Plendl, Ben Plendl, Kelcy Cronin and Caisey Cronin, all of Le Mars; three great-grandchildren: Alexis Brewer, Breanna Knight and Morgan Brewer; and a sister-in-law Betty Fries of Tempe, Ariz.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Brick Weidenfeller; seven brothers and two sisters.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. James Catholic Church in Le Mars with the James Tigges officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be anytime after 3 p.m. today (Friday) at the Feuerstein Funeral Home in Le Mars, where there will be a parish rosary and Scriptural wake service at 4:30 p.m.
Pallbearers will be Chris Weidenfeller, Chris Cronin, Mark Jones, Caleb Weidenfeller, Adam Plendl and Ben Plendl.
Honorary pallbearers will be her granddaughters: Jennifer Brewer, Amanda Brewer, Lindsy Weidenfeller, Kelcy Cronin and Caisey Cronin.
