Lance J. Hitchcock, 29, of Merrill, died Dec. 5, 2007, in Marcus, from injuries resulting in a truck accident.

Lance was born Aug. 13, 1978, in Sioux City, the son of Kenneth R. and Carol F. (McAfee) Hitchcock. He graduated from South Sioux City High School in 1997. He received an associates degree in web design from Western Iowa Tech in May 2007. He worked for HOM Furniture as a delivery driver for the past 10 years.

He married Shay D. Vermilyea on Dec. 18, 1999, in Dakota City, Neb. He was a member of Triangle Masonic Lodge in Leeds, the Abu-Bekr Shrine, The Wrecking Crew and was a 32nd degree mason in the Sioux City Scottish Rite.

He enjoyed the Kansas City Chiefs football team, spending time with his family and playing football with his boys. He enjoyed playing jokes on people, April Fools Day was one his favorite holidays. He also enjoyed playing his PSP and making people laugh. He enjoyed driving the fire truck in parades. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Survivors include his wife, four sons, Toby (Daddy's Big T and Toby Jones), Brady (Daddy's Worm), K.C. ( Daddy's Mooch and Baby Bear) and Danny (Daddy's Danny Boy) all of Merrill; three brothers, Brian of Dakota City, Neb., Erik and his wife Gina of Sioux City and Tim of Everett, Wash.; a sister, Laurie and her husband Aaron Suppinger of Indiana, his mother, Carol Hitchcock of South Sioux City; his nieces and nephews, Kayla and Carson Hitchcock, McKenzie, Stone and Mila Vermilyea, his mother-in-law, Karen Dawdy and his father-in-law, Danny Vermilyea and his grandmother, Mary McAfee.

He was preceded in death by his father: Kenneth Hitchcock, his paternal grandparents and his maternal grandfather.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Salem Lutheran Church in Dakota City, Neb., with the Rev. Karen Kaye officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today (Monday) with a prayer service at 7 p.m. followed by a Masonic Service at Salem Lutheran Church.

Pallbearers will be Rod Bartels, Brad Roberts, Frank Stauble, Brian Hitchcock, Jeremy Johnston, Rory James, Ryan Gengler and Brett Johnson.
