Brendan Michael Heuertz, 21-month-old son of Travis and Juliane and Heuertz of Pieere, S.D., entered God's arms on Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2008, at his home in Pierre surrounded by his family.

Brendan Michael Heuertz was born March 16, 2006, at 8:05 a.m. in Sioux Falls, S.D., the son of Travis and Juliane (Meier) Heuertz, weighing 6 pounds, 14 ounces and was 18 3/4 inches long.

Brendan was born with a rare terminal illness called Walker-Warburg Syndrome. In spite of all this he enjoyed a great number of things and lived an active, happy life. He loved everything to do with the outdoors; from taking walks to sitting in the sun. He went fishing, boating, and camping. He also was a huge fan of swimming and it didn't matter where. Even though Brendan was blind there were always sparkles in his eyes and a light in his laugh.

Brendan was very special to a vast many people. He touched many hearts and gave us all a small piece of Heaven each time he smiled. There are no words to describe how much Brendan meant to so many. The short time he had brought so much joy and yet it will never be enough.

Despite the odds he surpassed all expectations and continuously proved his doctors wrong. He grew to be a 24 pounds, 2 ounces and 29 inches tall little boy. Our "Angel Baby" went with God into peace, love, and everlasting harmony too soon for us, but we will always remember his "little" thighs, all of the good times, and how much he taught us about living and about strength. He will forever be loved.

He is survived by his parents Travis and Juliane; his baby brother Ely Mark Heuertz; maternal grandparents, Dale and Jackie (Otteson) Eide of Pierre, S.D.; maternal great-grandparents, Al and Norma Meier of Pierre and Al and Nancy Eide of Bloomington, Minn.; paternal grandparents, Jo Heuertz of Pierre and Rick and Kathy Heuertz of South Sioux City, Neb.; paternal great-grandparents, Lois Jaide of Murdo, S.D., and Stanley and Frances Heuertz of Le Mars; aunts and uncles: Angela Eide of Pierre and Tobi Heuertz of Pierre; Trent and Tiffany Heuertz of Webster, S.D., and Joe Eide of Pierre; special friends and family: Jerry and Michele Meier, Justin Meier, Chelsey Meier, Kieran Eide, Natalie Heuertz, Randy and Nita Hall, his therapists, doctors and nurses.

Funeral services were at 10:30 a.m. today (Monday) at Faith Lutheran Church in Pierre, with burial in Scotty Philip Cemetery in Fort Pierre, S.D. Visitation was Sunday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Isburg Funeral Chapel, with a prayer service at 7 p.m.
