Edna Karr, 87, of Le Mars, died Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2008, at Park Place Estates in Le Mars.

Edna Ione DeRaad was born March 16, 1920, on the family farm near Ireton, the youngest daughter of Albert and Minnie (Van Meveren) DeRaad. She was educated in the Ireton School graduating from high school in 1938. Edna was united in marriage to Weston Randall Karr, a high school classmate, on Aug. 29, 1941, at Denver, Colo. They returned to Iowa in 1942 when Weston entered the United States Army Air Corp. During this time Edna worked in retail sales in Le Mars. When Weston was discharged from the service in December 1945, the couple returned to Colorado in 1946 for a brief period of time. Later in 1946, they returned to Le Mars to make their home. Edna worked for many years in the offices of Floyd Valley Hospital and Medical Associates until her retirement.

Edna was a longtime member of the Presbyterian United Church of Christ where she participated in choir and other church activities. She had also volunteered as a Plymouth County Peer Counselor and assisted with Meals on Wheels for several years.

She enjoyed music, traveling, and doing genealogy research. After Weston died in August 2004, Edna made her home at Park Place Estates in Le Mars.

Survivors include two sons, Kendall and Karen Karr of Craig and Douglas and Linda Karr of Petaluma, Calif.; four grandchildren, Kari Van Dam and her husband Rich, Kory Karr, John Karr, and David and his wife Angie Karr; six great-grandchildren, Emily R., Peter, Tyler, Emily J., Brody, Jaelyn, Allison.

Edna was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Minnie (Van Meveren) DeRaad; her husband Weston on Aug. 22, 2004; two sisters, Bertha McDougall and Ida Koops; and two brothers, Leon and Art DeRaad.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Presbyterian United Church of Christ with Reverend Ray Kruger officiating. Interment will be Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Ireton. Visitation will be the Carlsen Funeral Home after 4 p.m. Friday with the family present to greet friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Visitations will continue Saturday morning at the church from 9:30 a.m. until service time. Immediately following the funeral service family and friends will gather for a time of fellowship prior to the interment service at the cemetery.

Pallbearers will be John Karr, Kari and her husband Rich Van Dam, Kory Van Dam, Lisa Ludwigs, David Karr and his wife Angie.
