MARCUS, Iowa -- Ashley M. Rassel, 22, of Marcus passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on Friday, Jan. 4, 2008, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Faith Lutheran Church in Marcus, with the Revs. Liz Pfeifle and Don Meyer officiating. Burial will be in Marcus Amherst Cemetery. Visitation will begin 2 p.m. today, with the family present 5 to 8 p.m., at the church. Visitation will resume one hour prior to services Wednesday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Earnest-Johnson Funeral Home in Marcus, Iowa.

Ashley Morgan Rassel was born July 14, 1985, in Le Mars, Iowa, the oldest daughter of Jeffrey and Lori (Bellefy) Rassel. She was baptized on Oct. 6, 1985, and confirmed on March 7, 2000, at Faith Lutheran Church in Marcus. She attended Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn Community Schools, graduating from high school in 2004. During high school, she participated in choir and played the flute in band. After graduating from high school, she completed the administrative secretary program at Northwest Iowa Community College in Sheldon, Iowa. Her first job was with Data Dimensions in Sheldon. She later worked in the office of McCormick Construction (Little Sioux Corn Processors) in Marcus. She was presently employed at Hawke and Co. Ag in Alton, Iowa, as a secretary and bookkeeper.

She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church. She loved being outdoors and all aspects of farming, especially caring for animals. She liked four wheeling and snowmobiling. She served as a leader for Stockman's 4-H club. As an infant, she and her mother, Lori, went trucking with her father, Jeff, and saw nearly all of the United States. Many will remember her bubbly personality. She had a gift for making others smile. This Christmas, she was engaged to be married to Brian Tuttle.

She will be lovingly remembered by her parents, Jeff and Lori of Marcus; a brother, Kiel at home; a sister, Shania at home; her fiance, Brian Tuttle of rural Marcus; maternal grandfather, Lawrence Bellefy and his wife, Jane of Bagley, Minn.; paternal grandmother, Elaine Rassel of Marcus; aunts and uncles and spouses, Larry and Lisa Bellefy of Bagley, Minn., Jack Bellefy and his special friend, Cindy Camp of Bagley, Rod and Sarah Rassel of Sioux City, Jennifer and Scott Allen of Remsen, Iowa, Cam and Gina Rassel of Marcus, Zac of Marcus and Jesse and Natalie Rassel of Le Mars, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her maternal grandmother, Frances Bellefy; paternal grandfather, Floyd Rassel; two uncles, Charlton and Justin Rassel; and an aunt, Jean Rassel.

Ashley gave the greatest gift of all, the gift of life through tissue and organ donation.
