Bernice Sherman
Bernice Sherman, 73, of Sheldon, died Thursday (Dec. 8, 1983) in a Sheldon nursing home.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in St. Paul Lutheran Church. Rev. Landis Gross will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery at Primghar.
There will be an Order of Eastern Star service at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Vander Ploeg Funeral Home in Sheldon.
Mrs. Sherman, the former Bernice Bjork, was born April 7, 1910, in Marcus. She graduated from Archer High School in 1927 and a two year teacher’s course at Iowa Teachers College in Cedar Falls.
She taught rural school for 5 ½ years. She married J. H. Sherman in 1950 in Sheldon. She served as deputy treasurer for O’Brien County for 20 years.
Mr. Sherman died in 1957 and she enrolled at Westmar College and graduated with a bachelor of arts degree in elementary education. She then taught in Paullina, Boyden, Sibley and Sheldon Christian Schools, retiring in 1980.
Mrs. Sherman was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Business and Professional Women and Order of the Eastern Star.
Survivors are one sister, Mrs. Frances Schwartz of Primghar and one brother, Walter of Archer.
