Merrill Official on Hunt Dead
Donald Eugene Minick, 53, Merrill councilman, was dead on arrival Saturday at the Akron Community Hospital. He suffered an apparent heart attach while hunting deer in the Akron area.
Minick was the only Merrill council incumbent re-elected Nov. 8 along with new members DeWayne, Juelfs and Terry Gries. Next highest vote getter was Ed Marienau.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Merrill United Methodist Church. Rev. Donald Bardole will officiate and burial will be in Merrill Hillside city cemetery under direction of the Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home.
Full military rites will be conducted by the Merrill American Legion Post.
Mr. Minick was born Nov. 5, 1930, at Welcome, Minn., to Ralph and Laura Fisher Minick. He joined the United States navy at the age of 16 and served for 20 years. He lived in Sioux City until moving to Merrill in 1978. He was a USDA meat inspector.
His marriage to Peggy Bartels took place July 3, 1958, at Reno, Nev. He was a member of the Merrill United Methodist Church; Landmark Masonic Lodge, 103, Sioux City; Sioux City Scottish Rite Bodies; Abu Bekr Temple of Sioux City.
Survivors are his wife Peggy, Merrill; two sisters, Mrs. Merlin (Truma) Rasmussen, Sauk Centre, Minn., and Mrs. Richard (Florine) Larson, Welcome, Minn., and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
