Mrs. Harry Hansen

Mrs. Harry (Elvera) Hansen, 82, of Alton, died Sunday (Oct. 10, 1982), in a Sioux City hospital after a lengthy illness.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in St. Mary’s Catholic church in Alton. Rev. David Hogan will officiate. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.

The rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. Wednesday by the parish in the Johnson-Luken funeral home in LeMars.

Mrs. Hansen, the former Elvera Hodapp, was born Nov. 10, 1899, at Oyens to Charles and Rachel Stahl Hodapp. She moved to the Merrill area with her parents as a child. She graduated from Merrill high school and taught in rural area schools for several years until her marriage to Harry Hansen Nov. 30, 1926, at Merrill.

They lived at Merrill for a short time after which they moved to the Alton area. He died Oct. 19, 1969. On Nov. 18, 1979, she moved to the Happy Siesta retirement home in Remsen.

She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic church and the American Legion auxiliary.

Survivors are one son, Norman of Tinley Park, Ill.; three grandsons, and two great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by her parents, five brothers, Henry, Mike, Lee, Arthur and William and one sister, Mrs. Joe (Lucy) Kohler.
