Mrs. John Bentz

Mrs. John (Christine) Bentz, 85, of Remsen, died Monday (Oct. 11, 1982), at Floyd Valley hospital in LeMars after a brief illness.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in St. Mary’s Catholic church in Remsen. Rev. Robert McLintock will officiate. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.

The rosary was recited Tuesday by the 3rd Order of St. Francis at 2:30 p.m. by the combined Christian Mothers and Ladies Catholic Order of Foresters at 3 p.m. and by the parish at 8 p.m. in the Fisch funeral home in Remsen.

Mrs. Bentz, the former Christine Hatz, was born Sept. 22, 1897, at Sioux City to Martin and Mary Anton Hatz. She came to the Remsen area as a child with her parents where she received her education. She attended a business school at Mankato, Minn.

She married John Bentz Sept. 14, 1927, at Remsen. He died June 4, 1980.

Mrs. Bentz was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic church, 3rd Order of St. Francis, Christian Mothers and Ladies Catholic Order of Foresters, all of Remsen.

Survivors are three sons, James of Dubuque, Gerald of Orange City and Thomas of Plymouth, Minn.; one daughter, Mrs. James (Mary Margaret) Miller of Remsen; one brother, Mathew of Remsen; two sisters, Mrs. Ray (Elizabeth) Tritz of Remsen and Sister Monica Hatz of Dubuque; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Nick and Frank Hatz.
