Shirley M. Kirchoff

Shirley M. Kirchoff, 65, of LeMars and formerly of Pomeroy, died Thursday, Dec. 19, 2002, at Floyd Valley Hospital in LeMars.

The former Shirley M. Holtorf was born July 15, 1937, near Pomeroy, the daughter of Charles and Geneva (Maschino) Holtorf. She was educated in Pomeroy and graduated from Pomeroy High School in 1955. She worked as a nurse’s aide at Trinity Lutheran Hospital in Fort Dodge for a period of time.

On Jan. 1, 1956, Shirley married Dick Kirchoff at St. John Lutheran Church in Pomeroy. The couple made their home in Manson, Jefferson and Spencer, and Monmouth, Ill., before settling in LeMars in 1975.

Shirley was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church E.L.C.A. in LeMars. She enjoyed playing cards, reading and following the Hawkeyes. Shirley especially loved watching her grandchildren grow.

Survivors include her husband, Dick Kirchoff of LeMars; a daughter, Pam Yockey of Sergeant Bluff; three grandchildren, Chris, Shawn and Jennifer; her mother, Geneva Holtorf of Pomeroy; one brother, Darrel Holtorf and his wife, Donna, of Pomeroy; one sister, Pauline Puhrmann of Havelock; her mother-in-law, Marie Kirchoff of Pomeroy, and many nieces and nephews and other family members.

She was preceded in death by her father, Charles; and two brothers, Raymond and Glen.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at St. John Lutheran Church in Pomeroy, with Pastor Bert Burwell A.i.M., officiating. Burial will be in Union Cemetery at Pomeroy. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today (Friday), at the Michael Loterbour-Powers Funeral Home in Pomeroy.
