Rose Ann Levins

Rose Ann Levins, 102, of LeMars, died Wednesday evening, Dec. 18, 2002, at Brentwood Good Samaritan Center in LeMars.

The former Rose Ann Gallagher was born Nov. 17, 1900, at Letterkenny in Donegal, Ireland, the daughter of Hugh and Ellen Gallagher and grew up in the country near Donegal. When she was 22, she and her brother came to the United States to join another brother in Mason City. There she worked in a hospital for three years. She later graduated from Waterloo Beauty College. She worked as a beautician for 16 years until the death of her sister in 1944, when she moved to Waterloo to help her brother and his four small children.

Rose Ann Gallagher married Charles W. Levins on Feb. 12, 1954, at Mason City. They made their home in LeMars and she has lived here since their marriage. The couple moved to Brentwood in LeMars in September 1987. Her husband Charles died on March 24, 1989.

Mrs. Levins was a longtime member of St. James Catholic Church and the Altar Society.

Prayer was very important to Rose Ann who prayed the rosary every day and kept family and friends in her prayers as well.

Survivors include three nieces and a nephew: Mary Hannah O’Toole of Minneapolis, Minn., Ellen Ann Anderson of Washington, D. C., and Rosalene Gallagher and Daniel Gallagher, both of Minneapolis, Minn.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Charles; and all of her siblings.

The Mass of Christian Burial for Rose Ann will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. James Catholic Church in LeMars with the Rev. James Tigges officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in LeMars.

Friends may call anytime after 3 p.m. today (Friday) at the Feuerstein Funeral Home in LeMars, where a parish rosary will be recited at 4 p.m. and a Scriptural wake service will be held at 7 p.m. Visitation will resume at the funeral home from 7 a.m. until service time on Saturday.
