Harold Mouser, 82, of Remsen, died Monday, April 25, 2005, at Happy Siesta Health Care Center in Remsen.

Harold Mouser was born May 5, 1922, at rural Hartley, the son of Lee and Ruby (Gunning) Mouser. At the age of two, Harold moved with his family to near Sutherland, where they lived for one year and then moved to Primghar. In 1931, they moved to Paullina and in April 1933 moved to Granville. He graduated from Paullina High School in 1941 and was then employed with his father and also did construction work.

On Feb. 19, 1943, he entered the U.S. Navy and served in the Pacific Theater during World War II, being honorably discharged March 10, 1946. He then returned to Granville where he was employed with Doc Jones building telephone lines in the Hinton area for a couple of years and then with Bachmann Electric in Granville. In March of 1954, he moved to Remsen where he established his own electrical business, Mouser Sales ands Service, and also did electrical work for other contractors in the Sioux City area.

On Aug. 27, 1954, he married Luella Sanow Bentz at Remsen where they made their home. He retired in Jan. 2001 because of health reasons. He had been a resident of the Happy Siesta since May 19, 2003. Luella died Dec. 24, 2003.

He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Remsen, Post 3328 V.F.W. of Remsen and the American Legion Post 724 in Brunsville.

Survivors include three sons, Gene and his wife, Janet of Groveport, Ohio, Kevin and his wife, Malia of Remsen, and Steve of Marcus; two daughters and their husbands, Gail and Romas Jankevicius of Omaha, Neb., and Kim and Charles Loutsch of Le Mars; two stepdaughters and their husbands, Judy and Lon Bruinsma of Sioux Center and Diane and Dan Hansen of Remsen; 19 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Thomas and his wife, Gisela of Gulph Mills, Pa., James of Dallas Center and Ronald and his wife, Julia of Kure Beach, N.C.; three sisters, Bernice Votruba of Alcester, S.D., Lois Wilkerson of Sioux City and Jean Moos of Palisade, Colo.; and one sister-in-law, Mrs. Norman (Madeline) Mouser of Ware, Mass.

He was also preceded in death by his parents; two granddaughters, Melissa Mouser and Amy Loustch; two brothers, Marion and Norman; two sisters, Ruth Hoffman and Maxine and her husband Ronald Jarman; one brother-in-law, Stanley Votruba and one sister-in-law, Mrs. James (Phyllis) Mouser.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Remsen with the Rev. Timothy Johnson officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Remsen, with graveside military honors conducted by Post 3328 V.F.W. and post 220 American Legion. Friends may call anytime after 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Fisch Funeral Home in Remsen, where there will be a parish rosary at 3 p.m. and a vigil prayer service at 7:30 p.m.

Casketbearers will be Kevin, Joe, Gene, Eugene, Francis and Steve Mouser.
