PETER NOTHEM DEAD
WAS AN HONORED AND RESPECTED PIONEER
LIVED IN MARION MANY YEARS
DECEDENT WAS A NATIVE OF THE GRAND DUCHY OF LUXEMBURG, EUROPE, AND CAME TO AMERICA WHEN A YOUNG MAN AND SETTLED HERE.

Peter Nothem, a well known and long time resident of Plymouth county, died at the city hospital on Tuesday night, following a three months' illness. Mr. Nothem had been a sufferer from chronic inflamation of the pancreas for a long time and for the past few months had been a great sufferer. An operation was performed about eight days before his death, it being the only alternative. He rallied from the operation and was progressing favorably, apparently, when his strength failed and he passed away.

Peter Nothem was a native of the Grand Duchy of Luxemburg, Europe, and was born at Korisch, Canton Kapellen, on December 13, 1846, and was sixty seven years and three months old at the time of his death. He attended school and grew to manhood in his native town and learned the carpenter trade. Forty one years ago he started out from the old country for America and shortly after his arrival settled near Bellevue, Ia. He was united in marriage at that place thirty nine years ago and she with seven children is left to mourn the loss of a kind and loving husband and father. The children are Mrs. F. M. Faber, of Remsen, Mrs. Geo. Scott, of Vermillion, S. D., Mrs. Dan Geary of Brunswick, Neb., Mrs. W. P. Schomer, of Mankato, Minn., and Mrs. Frank Tincher, of LeMars, Frank and John Nothem, of Brunswick, Neb.

Mr. and Mrs. Nothem came to Plymouth county shortly after their marriage and settled in Marion township where they farmed and toiled and were happy in their peaceful avocation and in the rearing of a family of fine boys and girls. They successfully surmounted difficulties concomitant with the lives of pioneers and gained a comfortable competence and after years of honorable toil laid down the cares and burden of farm life and about eleven years ago came to LeMars where they purchased a comfortable home on north Court street to enjoy rest well earned.

Mr. Nothem was one of the many sturdy men who with perseverance, courage and industry gained a livelihood and a competence for himself and loved ones. He was a man of strict integrity, a just and law abiding citizen, a fond husband and affectionate father, a dependable neighbor and friend. His life was an example to others filling a niche in the world.

The funeral services will be held this morning at St. Joseph's church in this city at ten o'clock.
