MERRILL, Iowa – Loren Harris Branum, 71, of Merrill died Wednesday, March 10, 1999, at his residence.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. John Lutheran Church in Merrill, with the Rev. Dick Steffen officiating. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery, with military rites conducted by American Legion Olson-Halweg Post 125. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m. at Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in LeMars, Iowa.
Mr. Branum was born Nov. 16, 1927, in Whiting, Iowa, the son of Orlie and Emma B. (Haverkamp) Branum. He was raised in the Morningside area of Sioux City and moved with his family to a farm near Merrill in 1942. He graduated from Merrill High School in 1945. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He married Laura Elsie Bock on Aug. 13, 1955, in Rock Rapids, Iowa. He was employed as a brakeman with Burlington-Northern Railroad from 1950 until retiring in June 1993. She died Sept. 16, 1994.
Survivors include two sons, Paul and his wife, Linda, of Billings, Mont., and Patrick of Merrill; a daughter and her husband, Linda and Richard Hamman of Amarillo, Texas; five grandchildren; a brother and his wife, Keith and Adrienne of Merrill; and a special friend, Dolores Grosenheider of Merrill.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Pallbearers will be Gordon Bock, Vince Hoefling, Merlyn Luschen, Joshua and Jeremiah Branum and Christos Kritis.
