JOHN BOTTJEN
KINGSLEY, Iowa – John Bottjen, 73, of Kingsley, died Thursday, April 13, 2000, at his residence after a long illness.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at First Lutheran Church in Kingsley with the Rev. Michael Gruhn officiating. Burial will be in Kingsley Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. today at the church, with the family present 5 to 8 p.m., and a prayer service at 7 p.m. Arrangements are being handled by Earnest-Michaelson Funeral Home in Kingsley.
Mr. Bottjen was born May 2, 1926, in rural Moville, Iowa, the son of George and Minnie (Burrow) Bottjen. He grew up in the Moville/Kingsley area.
On March 4, 1951, he married Marlyss LeMoine. They lived and farmed east of Moville for a short time before moving to a farm north of Kingsley where they continued to farm. They moved into Kingsley after his retirement.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1946 to 1947.
Survivors include his wife of Kingsley; a daughter and her husband, Dianna and Steve Puttmann of Del Rapids, S.D.; two sons and their wives, Delvin and Paula Bottjen and Garry and Ronda Bottjen all of Kingsley; eight grandchildren, Jonathan and Brandon Puttmann, Elliott, Wesley, Taylor, Nathan, Nicole and Ryan Bottjen; three brothers, Carl and his wife, Gladys of Hawarden, Iowa, Elzie of Moville and Cecil and his wife, Inez, of Sioux City; and a sister-in-law, Helen Bottjen of Remsen, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Harry, Albert and George Jr.; and two sisters, Clara and Edna.
