VIRGINIA H. BLUM

AKRON, Iowa – Virginia H. Blum, 81, of Akron died Saturday, April 3, 1999, at her residence following a lengthy illness.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Akron, with the Rev. LeRoy Seuntjens officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. today, with a 2 p.m. rosary by the Catholic Daughters of America, and a 7 p.m. Scripture prayer service, at Schroeder Funeral Home in Akron.

Mrs. Blum was born Jan. 8, 1918, in Sioux City, the daughter of Joe and Nellie ( Hardy) Parks. She attended country school by Leeds and graduated from Central High School in 1937. She then attended Mid-West Business College in Sioux City for 1 ½ years.

She married Edmund Blum on April 2, 1940, at Cathedral of the Epiphany in Sioux City. They farmed near Akron for many years until their retirement to Akron in November 1998.

She enjoyed gardening, dancing, cooking and playing cards.

She was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church of Akron, Catholic League (Ladies of St. Joseph), Catholic Daughters of America, and Farm Bureau.

Survivors include her husband; two daughters and their husbands, Penny and Jim Harvey, and Iola and Robert Frerichs, all of Akron; one brother and his wife, Loren and Lucille Parks of Sioux City; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her twin sister, Margie Tavis.

Pallbearers will be Brad Harvey, Chad Harvey, Mark Eskra, Darin Frerichs and Ryan Frerichs.
