FRANCIS C. BLUM
WESTFIELD, Iowa – Francis C. Blum, 85, of Westfield died Tuesday, June 22, 1999, at a Sioux City hospital following a brief illness.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Akron, Iowa, with Monsignor Richard Zenk officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 9 p.m. Friday, with the family present 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. and a Scriptural wake service at 7:30 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Visitation will resume after 10 a.m. Saturday at the church.
Mr. Blum was born Aug. 31, 1913, in Fremont, Neb., the son of Frank and Jennie (Marr) Blum.
He married Gertrude Trautt on Jan. 29, 1946, in Akron, Iowa. He moved to Logan, Iowa, and then returned to Akron. He farmed in the Westfield and Akron area for many years. She died Nov. 12, 1993, in Sioux City.
He was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, the church choir and Akron Community Theatre. He enjoyed hunting and was an area historian.
Survivors include a son and his wife, Timothy J. and Marilyn of Sioux City; a daughter and her husband, Mary Anne and Paul Skelton of Sioux City; a brother and his wife, Peter and Billie of Bay City, Texas; and six grandchildren, Melissa, Janine and Amber Skelton, Jennifer, Wade, Wayne Blum and Rebecca Walsh.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Joseph and James; a sister, Mary Anderson; and a grandson, Michael Blum.
Pallbearers will be Ed Schoenfelder, Jerome and Vaughn Blum, Connie Heider, Doug Utech and Jim Hayes.
