DONALD H. BINNEBOESE, FORMER REPRESENTATIVE, HINTON MAYOR DIES
HINTON, Iowa -- Donald H. Binneboese, 81, of Hinton passed away Monday, Feb. 28, 2005, at his residence.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church in rural Hinton, with the Rev. David Kottlowski officiating. Burial will be in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Friday, with the family present 5 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars, Iowa. Visitation will resume one hour prior to the service Saturday at the church.
Donald Harold Binneboese was born Feb. 17, 1924, on the family farm in Plymouth County, Iowa, the son of Albert Eugene and Emma Anna (Helmke) Binneboese. A lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church, he was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church as a child. He was raised and educated in Plymouth County. Following his education, he assisted his family with farming.
On Aug. 27, 1944, he and Marga F. Howe were united in marriage at Trinity Lutheran Church. The couple made their home on a farm near Hinton, where they started their family. He, along with his brother Eugene, were innovative farmers who were the first in the area to practice conservation tilling and utilize grain drying bins on their farms.
He was elected as a State of Iowa Representative in 1977. He faithfully served as representative until his term concluded in 1984. He would later serve as mayor of Hinton and was a city council member from 1988 to 1991. The couple moved into Hinton in January 1981.
He was a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church and served the church in various capacities. He was a devoted husband and father, always taking time to spend with his family. Throughout the years, he enjoyed numerous activities with family. He belonged to a bowling team, enjoyed golfing, was an avid Chicago Cubs fan and also did a great deal of reading to keep up with current events and politics.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Marga of Hinton; a son and his wife, Allen and Millie Binneboese of Hinton; three daughters, Patricia Switzer of Denver, Colo., Cheryl Butler of Gretna, Neb., and Sally Binneboese of Omaha; a son and his wife, Donald and Joyce Binneboese Jr. of Orange City, Iowa; eight grandchildren, Derek, Nathan and Wade Binneboese, Tim and David Butler, Rachel and her husband, Kyle Nettestad, Julie Binneboese and Abby Binneboese and her fiance, Aaron Rector; two sisters, Norma Maxine of Shenandoah, Iowa, and Imelda Merlin of Alameda, Calif.; and a sister-in-law, Mick Binneboese of Sioux City.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Eldora McEntaffer and Lucille Reimann; and a brother, Eugene Binneboese.
