WAYNE V. BETSWORTH

Wayne V. Betsworth, 82, of Sioux City, died Wednesday, June 20, 2001, at Sunrise Retirement Community following a lengthy illness.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Calvary Lutheran Church, with the Rev. David A. Schoop officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m. at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.

Mr. Betsworth was born March 12, 1919, in LeMars, Iowa, the son of Jerome and Josephine (Braun) Betsworth. He was raised in LeMars and later moved to Sioux City.

He married Fern Frerichs in LeMars. She died in March 1951, in Sioux City. He later married Sylvia Petersen on Aug. 23, 1952, in South Sioux City. She died in October 1997 in Sioux City.

He was employed with Ray V. Mitchell Distributing for about 34 years, retiring in 1976.

He was a former member of Local Teamsters Union. He was a member of Retirement Teamsters and Calvary Lutheran Church. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and gardening.

Survivors include two sons and their wives, Bary and Mary Ann and Jeff and Joni, all of Sioux City; two daughters, Carolyn Kowalke of Philadelphia, Pa., and Dixie and her husband, Bob Hegarty of Sioux City; 11 grandchildren, Troy, Stuart, Matt and Andy Betsworth, Jill Kohn, Amy Kemp, Michelle Kowalke, Jennifer Helmick, Kerry Cushing, Sean Hegarty and Molly Petersen; six great-grandchildren; and brother and his wife, Dwight and Gerry of LeMars.

He was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters.

Pallbearers will be Stuart and Troy Betsworth, Kevin Kemp, Mark Petersen, Sean Hegarty and Andy Kohn.
