MARGARET BERGNER

REMSEN, Iowa – Mrs. Chester (Margaret A.) Bergner Sr., 88, of Remsen died Saturday, Feb. 24, 1996, at Floyd Valley Hospital in LeMars.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Remsen with the Rev. John J. McGuirk officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Tuesday, with a rosary at 3 p.m. by the Christian Mothers and a vigil prayer service at 7:30 p.m., at the Fisch Funeral Home in Remsen.

Mrs. Bergner was born June 25, 1907, in rural Remsen, the daughter of Theodore and Anna (Ruba) Kobberman. She was raised in the Remsen area and attended rural school. She did domestic work in the Remsen area prior to her marriage to Chester Bergner Jan. 30, 1930, in Sioux City. The couple lived in Chicago for several years and returned to Remsen area in the 1930’s, where they farmed. She had been a resident of Happy Siesta Nursing Home in Remsen since September 1992.

Mrs. Bergner was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Christian Mothers and St. Mary’s Missionary Association.

Survivors include her husband; a son, Robert and his wife, Ann of Remsen; a daughter, Marjorie A. Gengler and her husband Melvin Reinert of Cherokee; a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Chester (Doris A.) Bergner Jr., of Lancaster, Calif.; nine grandchildren, and a sister Mrs. Olivia Moritz of Sioux City.

She was preceded in death by a son, Chester Jr.; a son-in-law, Ray Gengler; two brothers, Aloysius Kobberman in infancy and John “Jack” Kobberman; three sisters, Loretta Kobberman as a child; Mrs. Olie (Helen) Schwarz and Mrs. Frank (Agnes) Schwarz.
