LUCILLE BERTRAND

AKRON, Iowa – Lucille Anna Bertrand, 79, of rural Akron died unexpectedly Monday, July 10, 1995, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Akron with Monsignor Richard Zenk officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery, Akron. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 7 to 8 p.m., and a Scriptural prayer service at 7:30 p.m., at the Schroeder Funeral Home, Akron.

Mrs. Bertrand was born Nov. 4, 1915, in Wynot, Neb., the daughter of Bernard and Lucy (Riibe) Heitman. She married Spencer Bertrand on Oct. 26, 1935, in Jefferson, S.D. The couple farmed for five years in the Elk Point (S.D.) area before moving to the Akron area, where they farmed until their retirement in 1976. He preceded her in death.

Mrs. Bertrand was a member of the Happy Neighbor Club, St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Ladies of St. Joseph, and the Guild of St. Catherine’s at Westfield.

Survivors include two daughters and their husbands, Mary Ann McGonigle and Gary of Kent, Wash., and Vera Kapfer and Donald of Akron; a son, Jerry, of Akron; 10 grandchildren; one great grandson; a brother, Steve Heitman of Jefferson and a sister, Vera Albers of Hartington, Neb.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Mary Heitman and Margaret Zavadil and two brothers, Bernard and Martin Heitman.

Pallbearers will be Mark, Terry and David Kapfer, Rick Balcom, David Reiff, and Chuck and Roger Albers.
