WILLIAM H. BEVER, SR.
William H. “Bill” Bever Sr., 97, of Memphis, Tenn., formerly of Sioux City, died unexpectedly Tuesday, May 9, 1995, at his daughter’s home in Memphis.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Francis Catholic Church in Sioux City. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 7 to 9 p.m. today, with a Scriptural wake service at 7:30 p.m., at the Anderson-Perasso Funeral Home.
Mr. Bever was born June 13, 1897, in LeMars, Iowa. He came to Sioux City in 1903 and lived here most of his life. He married Florence Jones Aug. 20, 1940, in Ponca, Neb. She died Jan. 26, 1978. He worked for the Milwaukee Railroad for 50 years as a brakeman and was the conductor on the last Milwaukee passenger train out of Sioux City in September 1965. He later was head security officer at Park Jefferson.
Mr. Bever was a lifetime member of UTU formerly the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen. He was a longtime member of St. Francis Catholic Church. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1914 to 1917. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Sgt. Floyd Post 1973 and a past commander of the World War Veterans No. 1 Barracks 1019. He was a member of the Boys of ’68.
Survivors include two daughters, Kathryn F. Foote of Memphis and Helen L. Merryman of Sioux City; eight grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren and 13 great great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, William H. Bever. Jr.
