RAY M. BEAMER

LE MARS, Iowa – Ray M. Beamer, 87, of LeMars, died Sunday, Nov. 12, 2000, at Floyd Valley Hospital in LeMars.

Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at LeMars Bible Church with the Revs. Fred Gums and Ken Koth officiating. Graveside services will be 4 p.m. Thursday in Tecumseh Cemetery, Tecumseh, Neb. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in LeMars.

Mr. Beamer was born Dec. 17, 1912, in DuBois, Neb., the son of Bernice and Nellie (Keeler) Beamer. He graduated from Pawneee City (Neb) High School in 1931. He received his bachelor’s degree at Peru State Teachers College and his master’s degree from the University of Nebraska. He did his graduate work at the University of Iowa and the University of Colorado.

He married Hilda Hazen on Aug. 9, 1942, in Tecumseh. He taught rural school in Nebraska City, Pawnee City and Tecumseh. He also farmed in Tecumseh. He served as principal and later as superintendent at Syracuse, Neb. He taught and coached in Murray and Deloit, Iowa. He directed special education classes and coached in Denison, Iowa. He established classes for developmentally disabled students as supervisor for Plymouth County. He served as director of special education for both Sioux and Plymouth counties until retiring in 1977.

He was a former member of Presbyterian Church in Pawneee City and the Lions Club. He was a member of LeMars Bible Church and Phi Delta Kappa.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Ruth Beamer of LeMars, and Mary and her husband, Dr. Wendell Stoelting of Cherokee, Iowa; two granddaughters, Stacie Ruth and Carrie Beth; a sister and her husband, Mildred and Paul Dry of Bella Vista, Ark.; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Alice Charter.
