REMSEN – Mrs. Frank (Marie) Maass, 94, of Remsen, died Tuesday, Feb. 14, 1995, at Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars after a lengthy illness.

She was born Nov. 1, 1900, on the family farm southeast of Remsen, the daughter of Detlof and Catherine (Jacobsen) Erichsen. She married Frank Maass Dec. 8, 1920 at Christ Lutheran Church in Remsen. The couple farmed southeast of Remsen. After retiring, they moved to Remsen in 1959. Mr. Maass died Oct.11, 1977. She had been a resident at Happy Siesta Retirement Home in Remsen the last 10 years.

Mrs. Maass was a homemaker. She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, Remsen, and the Ladies Aid of the church. She was also a member of the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League and the Farm Bureau Women.

Survivors include two sons, Elmer Maass and his wife Alma of Remsen, and Wayne Maass and his wife Judith of Los Angeles, Calif.; three daughters, Mrs. Dorothy Robinson, Mrs. George (Helen) Bottjen, and Mrs. Burton (Ruth) Anderson, all of Remsen; a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Judy Maass of Winterset; 27 grandchildren, 51 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by a son, Roy Maass; one step-grandson, three great-grandchildren; two brothers, Herman and August Erichsen, and four sisters, Emma Mehlhop, Alvina NItzschke, and Minnie and Alma in infancy.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Christ Lutheran Church in Remsen with Rev. Robert Eggers officiating. Burial will be in the Remsen City Cemetery. Visitation will be after 3 p.m. Thursday at Christ Lutheran Church, with the family present from 7 to 9 p.m. and a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. at the church. The Moeller Funeral Home of Remsen is in charge of arrangements.

The couple farmed southeast of Remsen until 1959, when they retired and moved into town. He died Oct. 11, 1977. She had lived at Happy Siesta Retirement Home the last 10 years.

Mrs. Maass was a member of Christ Lutheran Church and Ladies Aid of the church. She was a member of the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League and the Farm Bureau Women’s Organization.

Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Dorothy Robinson and Mrs. Helen Bottjen, both of Remsen and Ruth and her husband, Burton Anderson of LeMars; two sons and their wives, Elmer and Alma Maass of Remsen and Wayne & Judith Maass of Los Angeles; a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Judy Maass of Winterset; 27 grandchildren; 51 great-grandchildren and three great great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Roy; a step grandson, Jeffrey Lewis; three great-grandchildren; two brothers, Herman and August Erichsen; and four sisters, Emma Mehlhop, Alvina Nitzschke, Minnie and Alma.
