MAVIS E. BYE
AKRON, Iowa --- Mavis E. Bye, 70, of Akron, died unexpectedly Saturday, March 11, 1995, at her residence.
Services will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Wesley United Methodist Church in Akron with the Rev. Donald Greenough officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Valley Cemetery at Adaville. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. today, with an Order of Easter Star service at 7:30 p.m., at the Schroeder Funeral Home, Akron.
Mrs. Bye was born Oct. 5, 1924, in Vermillion, S.D., the daughter of Walden and Pearl (McKellar) Fry. She married G. Vernal Bye Aug. 18, 1946, in Vermillion. She graduated from the University of South Dakota with a bachelor of arts degree in secondary education. She was a high school teacher for 10 years. She was the office manager in the Akron Doctors Clinic for many years and was director of Social Services for the Akron Nursing Home for several years. She also worked for Caitlin Collier, attorney at law, in Vermillion as a legal secretary until her retirement in 1994. Mr. Bye died March 26, 1982.
Mrs. Bye was a member of OES, Lions Club, and Wesley United Methodist Church (delegate.) She did volunteer work at the nursing home and the Akron-Westfield Community School.
Survivors include two daughters, Cheryl L. and Her husband, Mark Feight of Vermillion, and Deb and her husband, Mike Kerrey of Lincoln, Neb.; two sons and their wives, Clayton and Bernadette Bye of Kansas City, Kan., and Gordon and Shari Bye of Wisner, Neb.; two sisters, Maurine Fry of Towanda, Kan., and Audrey Donnelly of Clayton, Calif.; 10 grandchildren and one great grandchild.
She was also preceded in death by her parents.
Pall bearers will be Dan Kolberg, Duane Coons, Mike Kerrey, Mark Feight, Ron Moyer, and Bryan Van Slyke.
