LLOYD PORT DIES; LAST RITES SUNDAY AT AKRON CHURCH
Funeral services for Lloyd Melvin Port, 70, Akron, were at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Plymouth Presbyterian church, Akron.
Rev. Charles Kruse officiated. Burial was in the church cemetery. Military rites were conducted at the graveside.
Mr. Port died unexpectedly Thursday at his home in Akron after suffering a heart attack.
He was born Oct. 13, 1896, on a farm in Plymouth county. On April 17, 1917, he enlisted in the army and after his discharge, he married Mabel Noble Sept 3, 1919, at Struble.
The couple moved to a farm near Howard S.D., returning to Akron in 1936. He was a member of the American Legion Hoschler post 186 for 46 years and was presented a lifetime membership in 1954 for his outstanding work with junior Legion baseball. Mr. Port was a member of the Plymouth Presbyterian church.
Survivors are the widow; a son, Lloyd J. of Muskegon, Mich.; three daughters, Mrs. William Gant of Ireton and Mrs. Donald Rice and Mrs. Bruce Smith, both of Sioux City; a brother Ross of LeMars; two sisters, Mrs. Joseph Kain of Sacramento, Calif., and Mrs. Fred Jans of San Francisco; and 13 grandchildren.
