Gene R. Root, 67, Sioux Falls, former Sioux City resident, died Friday (April 22, 1983), in the Veterans Hospital in Sioux Falls after a long illness.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday in the W. Harry Christy Funeral Home in Morningside. Rev. Ronald Unser of St. James United Methodist church will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mr. Root was born June 13, 1915 in Elk Point, S.D. He lived in Elk Point, Akron and Sioux City. He was a 32-year veteran serving in Europe during World War II and the Korean War. He retired as Sergeant E7. He returned to Sioux City after his retirement and moved to Sioux Falls two years ago.
He was a Presbyterian and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Sioux City.
Survivors are one son, Robert L. of Des Moines; one daughter, Dorothy Root of Laurens; four sisters, Mrs. Gordon (Virginia) Nelson of San Francisco, Mrs. Mickey (Peggy) Crase of Madera, Calif., Mrs. Eleanor Fitzgerald of Roundrock, Texas, and Mrs. Elaine Root Phillips of Rohnert Park, Calif., and one granddaughter.
