LE MARS, Iowa -- Mark Russell, 44, of Le Mars died Sunday, Oct. 26, 2003, at his residence.
Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at St. James Catholic Church in Le Mars, with the Rev. James Tigges officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be after 3 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars.
Mark Robert Russell was born Feb. 18, 1959, in Akron, Iowa, to Robert and Carol (Lade) Russell. He grew up on a farm east of Akron in rural Plymouth County. He graduated from Le Mars Community High School in 1977.
He was united in marriage to Kathy Small on Nov. 18, 1978, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Akron. He began his career with Tri-State Drywall, where he worked until 1981. He worked for a dairy operation in Ida Grove, Iowa, before returning to Akron in 1982. The family moved to Alaska in 1985, where he worked for a large dairy operation for several years. In 1989, the family moved to Palo Alto, Calif., where he worked as a cabinet craftsman. In 1990, they returned to the dairy operation in Alaska, where he worked until the facility closed in 1993. The family moved to Le Mars in 1993, where he worked for Tri-State Interiors in Sioux City until his health deteriorated in April 2003.
He was a member of St. James Catholic Church and Painter's Union Local 214 of Sioux City. He enjoyed woodworking and building furniture. While living in Le Mars, he remodeled many homes for area residents. He enjoyed fishing and pheasant hunting. He loved to be outdoors.
Survivors include his wife, Kathy of Le Mars; three daughters, Royale Ann Russell and her fiance, Mark Andrews of Marion, Iowa, Brandie LeeAnn Backes and her husband, Levi of Holy Cross, Iowa, and Amber Jean Russell and her friend, Chris Minor of West Akron, S.D.; his parents, Robert and Carol Russell of Le Mars; a brother, Gary and Diane Russell of Bonifay, Fla.; three sisters, Deb Frerichs of Craig, Iowa, Pam and Alan Hummel of Indianola, Iowa, and Dawn Miller of Windsor Heights, Colo.; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Gayland and Selma Small of West Akron, S.D.; three brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Louann and Tim Clarey of Larchwood, Iowa, Brian and Melia Small of West Akron, S.D., and Brad and Lori Small of Merrill, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Kim Russell in 1976; a brother-in-law, Steve Frerichs; and his maternal and paternal grandparents.
Pallbearers will be Corey Frerichs, Mike Arens, Ben Gerritson, Tyler Small, Josh Hummel, Alan Hummel and B.J. Hummel.

Mark Robert Russell was born

Robert and Carol (Lade) Russell.
