Violet Martha Sampson
Violet Martha Sampson was born on March 1, 1908 in Akron, Iowa the daughter of Ernest Gabel and Pearl (Mann) Gabel.
She was raised in northwest Iowa and graduated from LeMars High School. On June 3, 1925 she was united in marriage to L.M. Sampson. The couple farmed in Plymouth County for many years. They eventually moved to Cherokee County and Violet worked at the Cherokee Mental Health Center for 15 years, in addition to helping her husband operate the farm. L.M. passed away in 1968, and in 1979 Violet moved to Pleasantville. She loved her family and cherished every moment she spent with them. Violet will be remembered as a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.
She was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church.
Violet passed away on Sunday, June 18, 2000 at the Pleasant Care Living Center at the age of 92 years, 3 months, and 17 days.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by four daughters: Dorothy Jean in infancy, Geraldine Miller, Daphine Clement, and Mary Hill; son, Dwain Sampson; and two brothers: Raymond and Roy Gabel.
Those left to honor her memory include two sons: Dwight Sampson of Kansas City, Missouri, and Dennis Sampson of New Sharon, Iowa; two daughters: Patricia De Forest of Vidalia, Georgia, and Karen Covey of Morrison, Colorado; sister, Fae Woods of Las Vegas, Nevada; two half-brothers: Donald and Eldon Gabel; half-sister, LaVonne Rolfs; 31 grandchildren, 62 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren, and many other family members and friends.
