Mabel F. Port, 91, LeMars, died Tuesday, March 19, 1991, at Floyd Valley Hospital after a brief illness.
Funeral will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Plymouth Presbyterian Church, rural Akron with Rev. Hatty Duncan officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery at rural Akron.
Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Thursday at the Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in LeMars with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mrs. Port, the former Mabel Noble was born June 15,1899, at Struble, the daughter of Albert P. and Orpha Millard Noble.
Lloyd Melvin Port and Mabel Noble were married Sept. 3, 1918, at Struble. She was a homemaker and seamstress.
The couple lived at Howard, S.D. after their marriage, where they farmed. They moved to Akron in 1936. She was a member of the Presbyterian Plymouth Church of rural Akron.
Mrs. Port was a 50-year member of Hoschler Post, 186, American Legion auxiliary and served as past president. She was a member of World War I Auxiliary Barracks of Plymouth County and was chaplain for a number of years. She was also an active member of the Friendship Club of Craig.
Mabel was a seamstress all her life and sewed for the people of Akron for over 30 years.
Her husband died Oct. 27, 1966. Mabel moved to LeMars in 1973, and remained in her own home until the time of her death. Survivors are three daughters, Evelyn Smith and her husband, Bruce, LeMars; Beulah Gant and her husband, Hawarden; Bonnie Rice and her husband, Donald of Sioux City; a son, Lloyd C. (Jack) Port and his wife, Kathleen of Muskegon, Mich.; 13 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; a sister, Myrtle Van Steenwyk of Clear Lake, S.D.; two brothers, George Noble and his wife, Rose of Lake Benton, Minn., and Dale Noble and his wife, Agnes, LeMars.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters and four brothers.
A memorial in her name has been established at the Plymouth Presbyterian Church, rural Akron.
