MELVIN EARL REES

Melvin Earl Rees was born on April 2, 1917 to "Will" and Emma Mathilda (Detloff) Rees on the family farm near Seney, Iowa. He attended country school through the eighth grade. Following his education, he remained on the farm where he worked side by side with his father. On March 19, 1942, Melvin was united in marriage to Annie Sasker at the First Presbyterian Church parsonage in Rushmore, Minnesota. The couple lived and farmed near Le Mars, Iowa. In 1955, the family moved to Luverne, Minnesota where Melvin began working for the Hanson Silo. He later became employed by the Rock County High Department where he continued to work until his retirement. Annie passed away in January of 1982. Melvin remained living in their home and continued enjoying the couple's hobby farm. Due to health reasons, he moved into Luverne to live with his daughter Rita. On August 9, 2007 Melvin died at age of 90 years, 4 months and 7 days.

Melvin was member of the United Methodist Church in Luverne, where he belonged to a friendship club. He was also a member of the Luverne Senior Citizens where he enjoyed noon meals and fellowship. He enjoyed auction sales and farming. He especially loved his family.

Melvin is survived by his two daughters, Rita Sterrett of Luverne, Minnesota, and Gloria Hibma and her husband Dennis of Worthington, Minnesota; six grandchildren, Mercie Domagala and her husband Larry of Luverne, Mary Beth Eiter and her husband of Prior Lake, Thomas Sterrett and his wife Melissa of Luverne, Terri Taylor and her husband Mike of Adrian, Minnesota, Peggi Olson and her husband John of Hull, Iowa and Steven Lorenzen and wife Allison of Mound, Minnesota; 13 great grandchildren; two great-grandchildren ; and his brother, Harold Rees of Mountain Lake, Minnesota. He was preceded in death by his wife, Annie; great-grandson, Noah Taylor; parents, "Will" and Emma Matilda; two sisters, Lila Rees and Cleone Dunne; and two brothers, Orval and Wallace.
