Roland F. Chapman

SPIRIT LAKE--Roland F. Chapman, 62, of Spirit Lake and a LeMars native, died Wednesday, March 26, 1997, while visiting friends in Carlsbad, N. M.

Mr. Chapman was born Feb. 14, 1935, at LeMars, the son of Thurit and Mary (Deegan) Chapman. He was a graduate of LeMars High School and had attended Wayne State College in Wayne, Neb., where he earned a bachelor's degree. On June 9, 1962, he married Ann Ahmann at Remsen. In 1966 the couple moved to Spirit Lake where he was a machine operator at Berkley and Company. Mrs. Chapman died Dec. 27, 1994.

He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of Spirit Lake. He had an interest and concern for conservation and the environment.

Survivors include two sons, Tom and Jay, both of Des Moines; two daughters, Angela Weinandt of Hartington, Neb., and Brenda Chapman of Milford; six grandchildren; two brothers, Gerald Chapman of LeMars and Robert Chapman of LaCresenta, Calif.; and two sisters, Lorraine Hoffman of Alton and Kathleen Mower of Mesa, Ariz.

He was also preceded in death by his parents.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Spirit Lake with the Rev. Albert O. Grendler officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery at Remsen. Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. today (Monday) with a parish vigil service at 7 p.m. at the Turner Funeral Home in Spirit Lake.

Pallbearers will be Christopher Ahmann, Eric Biewel, David Britt, Tom Britt, Jerry Ingvall and Stan Mueller.
