IOWA CITY --- LeVon C. Thompson, 93, of 3500 Lower West Branch Road, Iowa City, a former LeMars resident, died Saturday, April 8, 2000, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City following a brief illness.

LeVon Thompson was born May 29, 1906, in Yeagertown, Pa., the daughter of Samuel F. and Minnie Flory Charles. She moved with her family in 1911 to Iowa. She graduated from Elliot High School and taught for a couple of years before attending Western Union College at LeMars.

On Aug. 25, 1927, she married Harry O. Thompson in Red Oak. The couple lived in Boxholm, Alta Vista, Waverly, LeMars, Council Bluffs, and Hubbard, where Mr. Thompson served United Methodist congregations and in Des Moines where he oversaw a region of the United Methodist Church. In the 1960’s they retired to LeMars and in 1999 she moved to Iowa City.

Survivors include one son, Clarence R. Thompson and his wife, Beth, of Cedar Rapids; three daughters, Myrleen Divelbiss and her husband, Jim, of Coralville, Marcella Claus and her husband, Bill, of Blacksburg, Va., and Lois C. Thompson and her husband, Lanny Brewer, of Kansas City, Mo.; a daughter-in-law, Joan Thompson, of Iowa City; 15 grandchildren, John, Clark, Stephen, Faye, Lon, Debra, Diane, Janet, Brian,Ann, Steven, Karen, Stuart, Susan and Paula; 21 great-grandchildren, Samuel, William, Benjamin, Elizabeth, Clark, David, Kyle, Michael, Daniel, Karen, Andie, Kevin, Sarah, Patrick, Austin, Camden, Kaitlyn, Kirsten, Jake, Zoe and Abigail. She is also survived by her brother, Samuel Charles and his wife, Mary Ella, of Red Oak.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry; a son, Dwight; and a sister, Helene Sager.

Burial will be Thursday, April 13, at 9:30 a.m. at Resthaven Memory Gardens Cemetery at LeMars. A memorial service will follow at 10:30 a.m. at Calvary United Methodist Church in LeMars with the Rev. Josue Florendo officiating. Friends may call at the church Wednesday from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service of Iowa is in charge of arrangements.
