ERROL R. THOMPSON
Errol R. Thompson, 46, Charleston, S.C., and formerly of Merrill, died Friday, Feb. 7, in Charleston.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at United Methodist Church in Merrill, with the Rev. Shirley Textor officiating. Burial will be in Resthaven Memory Gardens, in Le Mars. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 11, with the family present 7-8 p.m., at Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home.
Thompson was born May 13, 1945, in LeMars, the son of Earl and Esther M. (Davis) Thompson. He moved with his parents to Merrill from Hinton in 1962. He graduated from LeMars High School in 1965. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1965 to 1969. He then worked with his father until reentering the Navy in 1972. He spent several years in the Mediterranean area. He met his wife, Rhits Boussedraoui, in Rota, Spain, and they were married June 6, 1977, in Charleston. He retired from the service as a chief in October 1989.
Survivors include his wife; his mother, Esther Thompson of Merrill; a brother, Eldon and his wife, Heidi Thompson of Sergeant Bluff; and four sisters and their husbands, Erlene and Kenneth Kommes of Fort Dodge, Kay and Edward Waltz of Sioux City, Erma and Lawrence Hecht of Merrill, and Evalee and Jerry Waltz of Winterset.
He was preceded in death by his father, and a sister, Estella Shekels.
