MILDRED M. SWANSON
Mildred M. Swanson, 84, of Marcus, died Sunday, March 15, 1992, at Happy Siesta Nursing Home in Remsen.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Grace United Methodist Church in Marcus, with the Rev. Ronald Kramer officiating. Burial will be in Resthaven Memory Gardens in LeMars. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Tuesday, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m., at Earnest and Roethler Funeral Chapel in Marcus.
Mrs. Swanson, the former Mildred May Yarington, was born on April 25, 1907, near Cherokee, Iowa, the daughter of Adelbert and Nellie (Miles) Yarington. She lived on a farm until age 13 when she moved with her family to Cherokee. She graduated from Cherokee High School and then worked for a law office there.
She married Dean Wallace Swanson on March 6, 1928, in Cherokee. The couple lived in Cherokee, Rock Valley, LeMars, Elk Point, S.D., and Charter Oak, Iowa, during the 40 years that he was employed by Iowa Public Service Company. He died Sept. 29, 1978. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church and the UMW.
Survivors include two daughters and their husbands, Gloria and Steve Strub of Marcus, and Phyllis and Robert Emery of Chevy Chase, Maryland; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Mrs. C. L. (Marvel) Cobb; one brother; and two sisters in infancy.
