Graveside services for Enoch Swanson, 88, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Resthaven Memory Gardens in LeMars.

The funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church, Spirit Lake. Prayer services Wednesday evening at the Donovan-Leyson funeral home, Spirit Lake, will be at 6:45 for Rebekah’s.

Mr. Swanson, who operated a tank wagon service 40 years in LeMars died unexpectedly Friday (March 19, 1982) at St. Joseph hospital, Tucson, Ariz. He had been hospitalized one day.

Mr. and Mrs. Swanson left their home at Spirit Lake last October to spend the winter at Tucson. They had planned to return next month.

Surviving are his wife, Edna, of Spirit Lake and Tucson, Ariz.; three stepsons, Layton and Larry Vick, both of Spirit Lake, and William Vick of Loveland, Colo.; a stepdaughter, Beverly Whitmer, of Tucson; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Ina Moline of Pine, Ariz., and Swea Rydquest of South Lyon, Mich., and two brothers, Eric and Egon Svenson, both of Ronnbe, Sweden.

Enoch Swanson was born Nov. 4, 1893, at Ronnbe, Sweden, coming to the United States at the age of 18. He lived at Rockford, Ill., and Chicago before coming to LeMars in 1932.

His marriage to Tressa Helen Solsman took place Aug. 24, 1931, in Indiana. She died April 18, 1974.

At one time Mr. Swanson had operated 12 gasoline stations and 22 outlets in affiliation with the Phillips Petroleum Co. Before retiring in 1974, he was a LeMars independent oil jobber.

He moved to Spirit Lake in 1976 after his marriage to Edna Vick, March 6, 1976.

He was active in many organizations, including the United Methodist Church, Masonic lodges in LeMars and Spirit Lake, Sioux City Abu Bekr Shrine, Spencer White Shrine of Jerusalem, LeMars Lions Club, Odd Fellows, Rebekahs, and Eastern Star at Spirit Lake and Viking lodge, Sioux City Scandinavian Club. While a LeMars resident, he made generous contributions to the LeMars Community High School band and other student organizations.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Sven and Anna Dorothy Pierson Svenson, and two sisters, Ruth and Iris. Enoch was the oldest of the Svenson children.
