D. W. SWANSON

D. W. (Wally) Swanson, 75, Charter Oak former LeMars resident died Friday (Sept. 29, 1978) at Crawford county memorial hospital in Denison after a lengthy illness.

Services were at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the United Methodist Church in Charter Oak. Rev. Dennis Bailey officiated. Burial was in Resthaven Memory Gardens in LeMars under of Huebner funeral home. There was a graveside service at 2 p.m.

Mr. Swanson was born Aug. 2, 1903, in Marcus. He married Mildred Yarington March 6, 1928, in Cherokee. The family had lived in LeMars.

He worked as a district manager for Iowa Public Service for more than 40 years. While serving in that position he lived in Cherokee, Rock Valley, Elk Point and Charter Oak. He retired in 1968 and served as Charter Oak town clerk for five years.

He was a member of the Masonic lodge and was a district lay leader for the Methodist church.

Survivors are his wife; two daughters, Mrs. Steve (Gloria) Strub of Marcus and Mrs. Robert (Phyllis) Emery of Chevy Chase, Md.; a sister, Mrs. Opal Ducommun of Cleghorn; three brothers, Melvin of Sutherland; Lloyd of Rantoul, Ill., and Bernard of Centralia, Mo.; and five grandchildren.
