FRED SCHMIDT, 71,
DIES UNEXPECTEDLY
RITES SET TUESDAYFred Schmidt, 71, longtime Plymouth county farmer who had retired five years ago, died unexpectedly Saturday at his home at 320 Third Ave, NW.
He was born July 8, 1894, at Athens, Ill. He farmed in the Craig vicinity and near LeMars until 1961. His marriage to Martha A. Onken took place Oct. 18, 1916, in Ireton. He was the son of the late Jurgen H. and Helena Schmidt.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at St. John American Lutheran Church, with burial in Resthaven Memory Gardens north of LeMars, under the direction of the Mauer funeral home. A prayer service will be held at 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Rev. L. L. Belk and Rev. Robert Floy will officiate.
Survivors are his wife, Martha; two daughters, Mrs. Leslie (Ramona) Pecks and Mrs. Eldon (Madonna) Clement, both of LeMars; two sons, Donald H. of LeMars and Wallace F. of Sunnyvale, Calif.; 13 grandchildren; and a sister, Annie Schmidt of Hawarden.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Herman, George and John.
Mr. Schmidt was a member of St. John American Lutheran Church and the Brotherhood.
