VALIRA M. SIPLE
Valira M. Siple, 78, of LeMars, died Tuesday, Jan. 30, 1996, at Floyd Valley Hospital in LeMars.
Valira M. Bierbower was born Oct. 28, 1917, on the family homestead at Flaxton, N.D., to George and Sarah (Fox) Bierbower. She moved with her family to Iowa in 1923 and graduated from Barnum High School in 1935. She moved to LeMars and started working at the Pantry Café in 1937. She married Glen Siple March 4, 1941, in Hartley. The couple became partners in the Pantry Café with his uncle, John Hammer, in 1944. They became owners in 1951 and were active in the business until their retirement in the late 1960’s, when their son, James, took over the business. The Pantry Café has been a part of downtown LeMars for 73 years. Mr. Siple died Nov. 4, 1989.
Mrs. Siple was a member of Grace Lutheran Church.
Survivors include a son and his wife, James and Linda Siple of LeMars; a daughter and her husband, Anna Lee and Robert Plendl of Kingsley; a sister, Velma Finch of LeMars; a brother and his wife Gaylen and Mary Bierbower of Farmington, N.M.; six grandchildren, Rob Plendl and his wife Wendy, Ricci Plendl and his wife, Holly, Rochell Plendl and Randy Plendl, all of Kingsley, Amy Walkingstick and her husband, Eric, of Claremore, Okla., and Heidi Siple of LeMars; and four great grandchildren, Jordan, Nathan, Seth Plendl and Michael Hansen; and a special friend, Helen Hansen, of LeMars.
She was also preceded in death by her parents and an infant son.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Grace Lutheran Church with the Rev. Larry Fett officiating. Burial will be in Resthaven Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today (Wednesday). The family will be present from 7 to 8 p.m., at Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home, LeMars.
