JOANNE SIMMONS
Joanne Simmons, 66, of Wichita, Kansas, formerly of LeMars, died Wednesday, Jan. 17, 1996, in Wichita, Kansas.
Miss Simmons was born Dec. 2, 1929, to E. and Mary Lola (Hoyt) Simmons. In 1941, Mary Simmons died and the family was raised in LeMars by an aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. A. T. Peters.
Joanne was a speech clinician, retiring as a speech teacher at Colvin Elementary School in Wichita. She had been involved with speech education for over 35 years. She was the second person to receive honors from the Kansas Speech and Language Association.
Survivors include two brothers, Robert H. Simmons of Falls Church, Va., and Jerry L. Simmons of St. Louis, Mo.; three cousins, Don Peters, rural LeMars; Betty Trescott, Chicago, Ill.; and Jane Steele, LeMars.
Services were held today (Friday) at the Bethany Presbyterian Church in Wichita with Rev. George Boone officiating. Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Resthaven Memory Gardens with the Rev. Dave Cave officiating. The Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
