Fred H. Schmidt, 81, of 533 Lee Drive, LeMars, died Tuesday (Sept. 23, 1986) at Plymouth Manor Care Center after an extended illness. He has lived at the center three months.

Funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at St. John's American Lutheran Church in LeMars with Rev. Tom Lee officiating. Burial will be in Resthaven Memory Gardens under the direction of the Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home. Prayer service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.

Mr. Schmidt was born Sept. 16, 1905, at Chatsworth to Folkert and Mina (Peters) Schmidt. He married Maidie K. L. Osterbuhr Dec. 12, 1928, in Grant Township.

The couple farmed in Plymouth County until 1967 when they moved to LeMars. Mr. Schmidt worked for Westmar College for 10 ½ years.

He was a member of St. John's American Lutheran Church in LeMars.

Survivors are three sisters, Mrs. Tillie Kluver of Akron, Mrs. Madie Witt of LeMars and Mrs. Millie Rehborg of Fort Collins, Colo.; a brother Mervin Schmidt, of Montclair, Calif., and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife on Sept. 13, 1983, a brother and two sisters.
